Juvederm is quickly increasing in popularity among leading Canadian cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists.

It is a both safe, effective and is of NON animal origin, an important consideration for people today and needs NO pre-test. Juvederms composition is based on hyaluronic acid, a key structural component of the skin. Crows feet, nasal furrows, and forehead wrinkles can be filled out presenting a more rested and rejuvenated look. Lips, often the first sign of aging, are plumped up giving a more luscious appearance by smoothing out deep lines.

"It gives a nice fullness, a slightly swollen appearance," says Dr. Marietta Zorn, a Toronto-based cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgeon. "Juvederm’s longevity is also appealing, everyone wants something that lasts longer." So impressed with the results she was achieving with her clients, Zorn had her own lips injected.

Juvederm is made from Hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in our bodies making the product highly biocompatible for clients. It comes in an easy-to-use viscoelastic gel of three different concentrations: Juvederm 18, the lightest of the three presented in a fluid form, is used to fill fine, superficial wrinkles; Juvederm 24 is injected into the middle dermis, and is used to smooth out furrowed brows and forehead wrinkles and mild to moderate nasal folds and cheek lines, and Juvederm 30, the densest application, is primarily used for enhancing or augmenting lips and cheeks.

"I’ve been using Juvederm on clients for several months now and I am pleased with the immediate results I’ve seen," says Toronto Dr. Frank Beninger, cosmetic, plastic surgeon with the renowned Beresford Clinic. Hyaluronic acid (HA), is a component of our bodies’ connective tissue whose primary role is to cushion and lubricate. It is present in the skin tissue, both in the dermis and epidermis. Hyaluronic acid has traditionally been used to treat hereditary connective tissue disorders such as joints, heart valves and eyes by restoring the natural protective cushioning ability. Most recently researchers found that this natural substance worked well for cosmetic purposes.

"Hyaluronic acid, the base of Juvederm’s composition, is a non-protein material so it is better tolerated by most people, particularly those with an allergy to collagen," says Dr. Kucy Pon, dermatologist at Toronto’s Sunnybrook and Women’s College Hospital. "It’s a natural body substance that is normally found in skin. As an injectable, we’re using it to replenish what we all start to lose as we age. It is extremely porous and can absorb more than one-thousand times its own weight so is extremely effective for plumping up skin and giving a fuller appearance."

Juvederm gives men and women considering cosmetic enhancements more options from which to choose. As a long lasting filler treatment, Juvederm presents a natural and smooth look with minimal risk of adverse reaction in clients.

"It’s an effective treatment without being too radical a change, a feature that is particularly appealing to men who are often interested in more subtle enhancements," says Beninger. "People don’t necessarily need to choose surgery as a way of restoring their natural, healthy appearance."
