Sanford Schnoll MD, Associate Clinical Professor of Dermatology at University of California San Francisco, has just released a hair thickening product made of ground, sterilized, real human hair. Kerasome Real Hair Solutions is unlike any other product ever developed, because rather than merely giving the appearance of a fuller head of hair, the user actually has more hair on their head.

April 18, 2005 -- The San Francisco based dermatologist who just launched Kerasome www.kerasome.com is planning a nationwide television advertising campaign in six weeks.

Using a patent-pending technique human hair, previously destined for wigs or extensions, is ground into a powder and suspended into a lotion containing a heat activated adhesive ingredient. The product is applied as simply as one would use any styling product. The hair is then blown dry to lock it in place. It does not come out due to rain, perspiration, or physical activity. It can be left in for days rewet and restyled as desired. It is only released when the hair is agitated under water (as in shampooing).

Previous hair cosmetics have been disappointing. We all remember “spray-on” hair which was the first popularized attempt to conceal thinning hair with a cosmetic. Scalp makeup came next, but both risked embarrassment through detection.

The most effective product, prior to this technology, was a definite improvement. The user would sprinkle a powder made of tiny pieces of dyed merino wool (which the manufacturer called ‘hair’) onto their scalp. This product was of only limited value because it imparted a dull, dry, graphite-like appearance to the hair. If used in any significant amounts it also covered the color variations present in natural human hair.

Kerasome, on the other hand, contains real human hair particles and thus has the same sheen, textural qualities, and color variation as human hair. It blends in seamlessly with the users own hair. Although a variety of different colors are available, a perfect match is not necessary as real hair isn’t all the same color and neither is the product. Kerasome is also effective in covering graying roots.

“Human hair is not the same as wool,” explains Dr. Schnoll. “All one has to do is look at a sweater and compare it to one’s own hair. They may share some qualities, but they are certainly not the same. Kerasome is totally undetectable I can’t even see it on my own head.”
