Typical mesotherapy for thighs and buttocks may take between six and ten treatments, spaced one to two weeks apart. "We have found remarkable success with the treatments, especially since we carefully screen our candidates, do our research and create the appropriate drug formulas for each case," explains Kristine Maki. The micro-injections consist of a combination of vitamins, conventional drugs and natural plant extracts, all FDA-approved, which are mixed specifically for every patient. After each 30-60 minute treatment, patients are able to return to work, typically experiencing only some bruising in the area of the injections.

Performed for years in Europe, mesotherapy is relatively new in the United States and has been advocated extensively by Dr. Bissoon who is credited with bringing the procedure to New York and Los Angeles. "Our training with Dr. Bissoon has given us the benefit of his experience, knowledge and techniques, making us uniquely qualified to offer the procedure in the Bay Area," Dr. Maki says.

Cellulite affects over 90 percent of adult women and, until the introduction of mesotherapy, there has been no effective, long-lasting cure. With the mesotherapy treatments, the connective tissues in the affected areas get broken up, the circulation and lymphatic flow improves at the site and the fat deposits are reduced, all contributing to an overall smoothing of the skin and reduction in cellulite.

"Our patients really feel good that this is a non-surgical procedure that can take care of a problem that has bothered many of them since their teen years," says Kristine Maki. "So many women are very self-conscious about their cellulite and won't even consider wearing shorts, much less a bathing suit, in the summer. Mesotherapy can be a very satisfying solution in many instances."

Treatment results are permanent as long as the patient does not gain substantial weight, and the areas around the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, back and arms can all be treated with good results.
