Renu LaserSpa Inc. has initiated a clinical trial on the use of the Thermage™ ThermaCool™ device to tighten loose abdominal skin. This addresses a common concern of women to improve the unsightly appearance of sagging or creping skin after childbirth or weight loss. The Thermage™ device has been recently approved by the FDA for the tightening of skin on the full face. The medical team at Renu LaserSpa feels the same principal applies to the abdomen, and perhaps other areas of the body.

Thermage™ is a non-invasive device that uses pulses of radio frequency energy to volumetrically heat the deeper layers of the skin, which tightens and stimulates production of new collagen. “Many women, particularly after child birth, complain of loose unattractive creping of the skin in the abdominal region,” commented Dr. Scott Kramer, Renu’s Medical Director. “Until now, only expensive surgical alternatives were available. However, our success in treating the face with Thermage™, clearly suggests there is great potential to address the same laxity problems for the abdomen.” Citing early clinical trial results presented at the recent ASDS (American Society of Dermatologic Surgery) annual meeting in San Diego, Dr. Kramer went on to add, “Results have been very positive, we are ready to expand the scope of treatments for Thermage™.”

The treatment lasts approximately 90 minutes and will require the patient to be mildly sedated to ensure comfort. However, Dr. Kramer states, “Thermage™ is a totally non-invasive procedure, so most patients will be able to resume normal activities with in a day, compared to a very lengthy recuperation required by a surgical alternative.”
