Dermatology Meeting to Discuss Latest Issues in Skin Cosmetic Treatments

Rolling Meadows, Ill., Sept. 23, 2004 – Nearly 1000 of the leading dermatologic surgeons in the U.S. will convene on Sept. 30 – Oct. 3 at the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego, Calif. to discuss the latest advancements in dermatologic surgery at the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) and American College of Mohs Micrographic Surgery and Cutaneous Oncology (ACMMSCO) Combined Annual Meeting.

Approximately four million skin-related procedures were performed in 2003. ASDS-ACMMSCO physicians will present more than 280 abstracts to address the newest research and techniques regarding dermatologic procedures, which includes both elective and necessary surgeries. Attendees have the opportunity to observe Live surgeries to demonstrate an endoscopic forehead lift, vein treatments, and application of fillers for lines and wrinkles and more.

Speakers will discuss topics relating to:

The non-physician practice of medicine: the risks a patient takes when undergoing a skin-related procedure that is not performed by a qualified physician. (e.g. hair removal laser treatments, Botox® and chemical peels being performed at spas or health centers).

New study findings on office-based surgeries and the risk of general vs. local anesthesia.

Expanded uses of Photodynamic Therapy for skin cancer and acne using intense pulse light and ALA (5-Aminolevulinic Acid, which is often used with photodynamic therapy in the treatment of skin cancer and acne).

Techniques for skin resurfacing and laser techniques, non-invasive vein removal, lower eyelid rejuvenation and more.

Non-surgical treatment of skin cancer.

Recently FDA-approved filler substances used "off-label." Experts will cover science, techniques of injections, controversies, results and complications resulting from filler use, including fillers that are not yet FDA-approved.

Radiofrequency skin treatment: a long-term evaluation of its tightening effect.
