Cynosure Awarded 26th U.S. Patent for Wound Healing Treatment

CHELMSFORD, Mass., Sept. 14 -- Cynosure, Inc., a leading developer and manufacturer of cosmetic and medical lasers, announced the awarding of its 26th U.S. patent, relating to its pulse dye and other laser technology. For this invention, Cynosure scientists George Cho and Ray Sierra, along with Horace Furumoto, Cynosure's founder and retired CEO and President, received U.S. Patent 6,692,517 B2, entitled "Optical Radiation Treatment for Enhancement of Wound Healing". The patent describes a method for reducing the healing time for a wound or a surgical site on the skin. The healing process is accomplished by the use of an optical radiation apparatus such as a pulse dye laser. "This invention describes a cost effective and efficient treatment to heal wounds more quickly," said Marina Kamenakis, Director of Marketing. "Physicians currently use our V Star pulse dye laser to treat existing scar tissue. This invention is designed to explore opportunities to treat wounds before the scarring begins." Since its founding in 1991, the Cynosure has been awarded 26 U.S. patents and 21 international patents for innovations in aesthetic and medical laser technology, including one for the treatment of wrinkles by stimulating collagen growth, utilizing the pulse dye laser.
